Compass is a navigational instrument that indicates the directions of the world, or more specifically, is used to determine the direction of the magnetic meridian. It is a device that improved high seas navigation and led to the era of great geographical discoveries. In our collection you can find compasses in brass and wooden casing stylized on models used centuries ago. Some models additionally contain a sundial, thanks to which we can also tell the time. Due to their finish and colors our compasses will beautifully decorate offices and rooms in retro style. Some models will also perfectly serve as paperweight. They will be not only beautiful, but also a useful gift for a traveler. The first mention of the compass comes from ancient China, where the directions of the world, played a huge role due to the positive or negative value - yin and yang. Based on the principles of ancient Chinese philosophy, north is darkness and south is light. The emperor in ancient China would sit on the throne with his face facing south and his back to the Pole Star. Interestingly, the first compasses pointed in the south direction. It was not until the end of the 12th century that the compass came to Europe, becoming one of the most important technical innovations, which showed the way to the New World.
