Astrolabe

Astrolabe reproduces a 3D sky map on a flat surface. It was also a navigation device.

Its history began more than 2,000 years ago. Over the centuries, knowledge was developed and more and more complex devices were built. Great credit for this goes to Arab scholars.  Sources report that thanks to this device in the Middle Ages, for example, a very accurate map of Baghdad was created. It was thanks to them that the astrolabe came to Europe in the 12th century.

Until about 1650 it was the most common astronomical instrument, then it was replaced by more precise instruments.
