Brass astrolabe on a black stone base BN-2088/S
Spherical astrolabe, also known as the armillary sphere, was an astronomical instrument used from ancient times until the 16th century. Astrolabes were used to determine the position of celestial bodies above the horizon and to determine your own position. They helped perform many complex calculations. They are a symbol of human aspirations to understand the universe. At one time, they decorated royal courts and houses of scholars.
The centerpiece of the astrolabe is the Earth, which is surrounded by rings representing the equator, the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, and the zodiacal ring.
This astrolabe has mainly a decorative function. Moving rings, however, will allow for a bit of astronomical fun.
The astrolabe is a beautiful decoration that will highlight the scientific interests of its owners. It will be an ideal gift for people related to science or astronomy.
