San Felipe Galleon – history:
One of the most beautiful Spanish 3-masted galleons built in 1690. It had a displacement of over 1000 tons. It was characterized by beautiful ornamentation. Flagship of the Spanish Armada. Powerful armament in 96 cannons located in three rows meant that it could boldly take on the largest British or English ships. Its main task was to protect shipping routes, transported treasures and trade goods. In 1705, during the War of the Spanish Succession, it participated in a naval battle between 12 Spanish and 35 English ships. After a 24-hour fight, it was very seriously damaged and sank with tons of gold on board. In this battle, 9 English ships sank and only 4 Spanish ships.
