The violinist usually rests the instrument on his left shoulder, holding his head (placing it on his chin). His left hand grips the neck, fingers pressing the strings in the right places for the desired sound. In his right hand, he holds a bow, which, resting against the string, moves in place between the stand and the neck. This game is called arco, and it can also pluck the strings with your fingers - this is pizzicato.
According to mythology, the inventor of the string instruments was Mercury, and the violin - Orpheus. Sappho invented a bow drawn with the horse's hair.
